Too often, neighborhood news highlight what's broken - traffic, crime, development pressures, government gridlock. But every day, right here in our communities, people are stepping up to make things better.

That's why we're launching a new series on Neighbor2Neighbor News called Neighborhood Stars.

What's a Neighborhood Star?

A Neighborhood Star is anyone - or any group - that:

  • Solves a problem

  • Improves daily life

  • Celebrates creativity and culture

  • Builds stronger neighbor-to-neighbor ties

Some stars shine in small ways - like a new crosswalk that makes the walk to school safer.

Others shine brighter - like a partnership that transforms a school facility or holds agencies

accountable.

Every star matters, because together they light the way for stronger communities.

Our First Stars

  • Makiki Neighbors vs. Street Racing: Sleepless nights turned into action when residents organized through the Neighborhood Board #10's Nice Neighborhoods Committee. Their persistence prompted HPD and the Honolulu Liquor Commission to act.

  • Washington Middle Bandroom Renewal: With support from alumnus Jake Shimabukuro, a national nonprofit, and state funding, Washington Middle School students returned this fall to an inspiring, modern music space.
