On March 12, 2026, Hawaiʻi celebrates a remarkable milestone — the 100th birthday of Governor George Ariyoshi, a leader whose legacy continues to shape our islands.
Governor Ariyoshi made history as Hawaiʻi’s third governor and the first Japanese American governor of any U.S. state. During his years of public service, he championed fiscal responsibility, good government, and the importance of thoughtful, long-term planning for Hawaiʻi’s future. His leadership helped guide the state through challenging economic times while maintaining the values of fairness, collaboration, and respect that define our island home.
Beyond the offices he held, Governor Ariyoshi has always represented the best traditions of Hawaiʻi — humility, perseverance, and a deep commitment to community. His example reminds us that public service is not simply about positions held, but about the lasting impact one leaves for future generations.
As he reaches this extraordinary centennial milestone, please join me in extending your own warm wishes and thanks to Governor Ariyoshi for his lifetime of leadership and service to the people of Hawai’i.
